In the autumn of 2022, Kazakhstan Energy Week was held in Almaty, within the framework of which, from September 28 to September 30, the 20th Kazakhstan International Energy, Electrical Equipment and Machine Building exhibition - Powerexpo Almaty 2022 was held.
The participants of the exposition were 96 companies from Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Poland, Russia. The structure of participants was distributed as follows: 33% were domestic companies and 67% were foreign. Exhibitors presented unique developments, innovative solutions in the field of energy, lighting engineering and energy saving at their stands. Great Britain and Germany presented national stands, and collective stands of the Chuvash Republic, Omsk region and the Republic of Mordovia were presented by 17 Russian companies.
The topic of energy saving and increasing the growth of renewable energy sources is especially relevant now, states around the world are prioritizing the development of “green” technologies. Kazakhstan is no exception. The government of Kazakhstan plans to increase the share of renewable energy in total electricity generation to 6% by 2025, to 15% by 2030 and 50% by 2050. By the end of the first half of 2022, the total installed capacity of RES power plants exceeded 2.3 gigawatts, and the share of electricity generated by RES in the total electricity generation amounted to 4.24%. In general, the increase in electricity generation by the RES facilities for the first half of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 is 17%.
In this regard, the rich business program of the Powerexpo Almaty exhibition included round tables, seminars and presentations in the schedule, the main topics of which were devoted to the discussion of the necessary transformations of the energy industry on the way to the “green” energy.
On the first day of the exhibition, October 28, the visitors were able to take part in the Round table, the topic of which was “Energy service and RES practice”, organized by Electric Power and Energy Saving Development Institute JSC of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the work of the Round table, topical issues, UNDP initiatives in the small-scale RES sector, and the development of UNDP projects in the field of energy efficiency were considered. The industry seminars from participating companies enjoyed the interest of the visitors. SIEMENS held a seminar on telecommunications in modern energy, presented the SIPROTEC 5 systems - the basis of a digital substation, and TGS ENERGY presented a domestic service to stimulate consumer demand for green energy - Greenlight as part of its seminar.
On September 29, a seminar on energy audit, organized by the Kazakhstan Association of Energy Auditors ALE, was held. The Union Energy Engineers of the Republic of Kazakhstan ALE together with the Pribor.kz Internet portal held a round table on topical issues of the development of the electric power industry in Kazakhstan, during which experts were able to answer questions from the audience and share trends and prospects for the development of the industry. Piton Electric shared practical cases on saving money and optimizing space in civil and industrial facilities for replacing cables with busbars.
On the final day of the exhibition, September 30, Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev organized a round table on the development of hydrogen energy in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The topic of production and use of hydrogen, as the creation of an industrial cluster for the production of hydrogen energy, was raised by K.-Zh. Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan, at the beginning of 2022. Also on this day, there was a big presentation of British companies on the global contribution to the sustainable development of the electric power industry in Kazakhstan. This was also mentioned by Cathy Leach, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Great Britain in the Republic of Kazakhstan, during her welcoming speech: “Since Kazakhstan gained independence, British companies have played a very important role in the development of the electric power industry in Kazakhstan. Today, there is a trend for “green technologies” all over the world. We must focus on transformations toward “green technologies” not only in the energy sector, but also in the economy. That is why the participation of British companies is especially important, because for Kazakhstan, the focus on transformation and the use of new “green technologies” will serve as an investment in development and a new round of growth”.
The Powerexpo Almaty 2022 exhibition has once again proved to be a popular industry platform that contributes to building an effective dialogue between industry players and representatives of the public sector, as well as determining the vectors for further development of the industry in the coming years.
The organizer of the Powerexpo Almaty 2022 exhibition was Iteca, the Kazakhstani Exhibition Company.
The event was officially supported by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Akimat of Almaty city, the Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC), the Kazakhstan Electricity Association, the Kazakhstan Association of Energy Auditors, Samruk-Energo JSC, the Electric Power and Energy Saving Development Institute.
In 2023, Powerexpo Almaty will be held from October 17 to 19 in Almaty. Registration of participants is open.
