The presence of more than 20 Chinese companies shows China’s growing interest in the Kazakhstani market.

In the last Message to the people of Kazakhstan - “The Economic Course of a Fair Kazakhstan”, K.-Zh. Tokayev stated: “The key role is given to the electric energy sector. Over the next five years, at least 14 gigawatts of new energy capacity will be commissioned. Kazakhstan, in principle, should not import electric energy and be dependent on neighboring countries. Of course, the implementation of projects in field of renewable energy will continue. The development of hydroelectric power stations deserves special attention. Energy, heat and water supply represent a single technologically interconnected system. It must be approached as a separate important sector of the economy. The current approach has largely exhausted itself. Today new solutions are required.” The exhibition’s expanded business program was devoted to issues of sustainable development of the energy sector.

The strategic session: Sustainable development of the energy sector: risks, challenges, opportunities was held with the participation of speakers from Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Union of Energy Engineers of the Republic of Kazakhstan ALE, Association of Renewable Energy of Kazakhstan, QazECO Association of Energy Supply Organizations ALE, Kazakhstan-British Technical University Joint Stock Company, Samruk-Energy JSC, KEGOC JSC, Kazakhstan Electric Power Association ALE, Electric Power and Energy Saving Development Institute JSC, Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev. The speakers discussed the current state and future of the energy sector in Kazakhstan. The focus was on sustainability, innovative solutions, investment and industry reform. The discussion was rich and productive. Experts emphasized the importance of developing small and medium-sized businesses in the energy sector, especially in the context of renewable energy.
