On behalf of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan and me personally, I am happy to welcome the exhibitors and guests of the 9th Kazakhstan International Power & Lightning Exhibition and Forum of Power Engineers – Power Kazakhstan 2010!
The aim of the event is to allow international and domestic business circles to get comprehensive information about the status and development prospects of electric and heat power industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan, development prospects of alternative energy sources, energy efficiency and energy conservation, the course of implementation of the State Programme for Accelerated Industrial and Innovative Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the Years 2010-2014 developed in pursuance of the instruction by the Head of State given on 15 May 2009 at the special 12th Convention of the Nur Otan People’s Democratic Party, Message by the Head of State to the people of Kazakhstan A New Decade – A New Economic Upswing – New Opportunities for Kazakhstan and in line with the key directions of the Strategic Development Plan for the Republic of Kazakhstan until the Year 2020, which is the second phase of implementation of the Kazakhstan Development Strategy until the Year 2030. One of the key target codes of the Programme is to reduce energy intensity of the Gross Domestic Product by 10% as compared to the level of the year 2008.
Under conditions of industrial production growth, electric power industry is becoming one of the life-supporting sectors of economy and one of the factors of economic development. The increasing demand for electric power is to be met through the build-up of electric power potential, construction of new and retrofitting and modernisation of existing power sources and electric networks using the latest high-efficiency technologies and equipment, and implementation of energy-saving policies.
In this connection, the issues of introducing reliable electrical equipment, circuits and modes in operation and applying new technologies in the spheres of power generation, transportation and sale, energy- and resource-saving equipment and technologies to use non-conventional and renewable sources of energy, and industry automation are acquiring utmost relevance.
Participation of a broad range of Kazakhstan and foreign companies, world manufacturers and suppliers of electric power equipment, technologies and services, service maintenance providers at power facilities, engineering and consulting companies in the Power Kazakhstan Project is to promote further development of the Kazakhstan market of power equipment aimed at making competitive products meeting the world quality standards, expansion of business partnership, and launching of new joint high-efficiency projects.
Being one the most important events related to power industry not only of Kazakhstan but of other countries as well, the Exhibition focuses attention on economic, technical and other aspects of power industry, forms and provides a platform for development and consolidation of production-and-technology and trade-and-economic relations between Kazakhstan and other nations.
I am sure that the Exhibition and the Forum incorporated therein will allow Kazakhstan and foreign specialists to discuss the topical tasks facing the power industry and make a significant contribution to resolving such crucial issues as the use of alternative sources of energy, energy conservation and energy efficiency.

Today, the electric power industry of Kazakhstan is facing large-scale tasks to provide for a sustainable economic growth. In March this year, the State Programme for Accelerated Industrial and Innovative Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the Years 2010-2014 was adopted aimed to diversify and enhance the competitiveness of Kazakhstan’s economy. One of the main objectives of the programme is to ensure the priority development of the country’s power complex.
To this end, the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan has elaborated a comprehensive Programme for Electric Power Industry Development until 2014 envisaging implementation of large-scale projects in the sphere of power generation and network construction. Along with identifying priority development directions, this industry-wise Programme provides for practical measures to increase the investment appeal of new projects, encourage alternative sources of energy and resource- and energy-saving technologies.
All topical projects, issues, and development trends of the industry will be discussed at Power Kazakhstan within the framework of the Annual Forum of Power Engineers designed to promote exchange of experience and establishment of new contacts and business partnership.
Traditionally, the exposition of this international exhibition to the full extent reflects the level of advanced achievements in the electric power industry. I am sure that the prospects brought about owing to the creation of the Customs Union are of practical interest for the Power Kazakhstan participants in terms of setting up joint ventures oriented to production and expansion of sales markets.
