About the Conference: The Conference Current Status and Prospects for Development of the Nuclear Power Industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan to be attended by domestic and foreign governmental officials and businessmen will be a prominent event within Kazatomexpo 2012.
The conference will discuss issues of the current development status of nuclear power engineering and industry, such as development and implementation of attractive projects for nuclear power plant construction, nuclear safety, and personnel training for nuclear power industry. International cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear power will be another focus of attention at the conference.
The conference participants will discuss the outlooks for cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear power, including development and implementation of attractive projects for nuclear power plant construction, researches into nuclear reactor physics and safety of nuclear facilities, opportunities of integrated development and testing of advanced types of fuel and reactor materials, and cooperation in personnel training for the nuclear power industry of Kazakhstan.
Kazatomexpo 2011: Figures and Facts More than 70 companies from Austria, Germany, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, and Russia participated in Kazatomexpo 2011, with Russian companies dominating (50% of the total number of exhibitors). Along with the world’s top companies such as KazAtomProm and Rosatom, leading Kazakhstan, Russian and foreign nuclear power, mining and energy companies as well as companies representing allied industries participated in the exhibition.
The event opening ceremony was attended by the honorary guests: Duisenbay Turganov, Vice Minister of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Timur Zhantikin, Chairman of the Nuclear Power Committee of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies; Kairat Kadyrzhanov, General Director of the National Nuclear Centre of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Mazhit Sharipov, Director of the Nuclear Power Engineering and Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies; and Abzal Kusainov, President of Nuclear Technology Park JSC.
In his welcome speech at the Kazatomexpo 2011 opening ceremony, Mr. Turganov voiced a hope that the exhibition will reignite development of the domestic nuclear power industry and serve as a platform to exchange information, share experiences, and review achievements. “We are looking for new business contracts to be signed at the exhibition. We are confident that this Forum will become a starting point for the projects included in the Kazakhstan Industrial Development Programme,” he said.
A number of conferences, roundtable meetings and workshops were held within Kazatomexpo. From the viewpoint of the nuclear power experts, the 2nd Kazakhstan International Conference Current Status and Prospects for Development of the Nuclear Power Industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan attended by more than 70 delegates was the most prominent and important event held within Kazatomexpo. The top officials from relevant Kazakhstan governmental authorities and representatives of KazAtomProm, RosAtom, National Nuclear Centre, and Nuclear Technology Park spoke at the conference. Professor Yoshi Fujie from Marubeni Utility Services Ltd. (Japan) commented on the current situation at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
Construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, security of energy supply, and a feasibility study for adding the nuclear power plant to the Kazakhstan power grid were the principal issues discussed at the conference.
“After the nuclear disaster in Japan all aspects of nuclear power generation in Kazakhstan, especially those relating to nuclear safety, must be reviewed. We have developed – though have not yet got it approved – a programme for the nuclear power industry development for 2010-2014,” Vice Minister Duisenbai Turganov said. “Now we are working on amendments thereto based on the latest events in Japan”. He noted that after the Fukushima nuclear accident this programme must some way or other be revised. “Our vision will be revised with due consideration of this accident, especially with regard to safety and reliability of nuclear reactors,” Duisenbay Turganov stated.
